History: [Spoilers] The first Styx was a scientifically minded orc shaman who developed a drug abuse habit while studying the Amber from the world tree of the elves. He ended up shrunken and mutated as well. Original Styx spent about a hundred years trying to either cure himself or commit suicide before being killed by a magical clone he created.

Clone-Styx, the guy being discussed here, killed his original self and ended up with severe amnesia and an army of mindless clones accidentally created in his own image. Styx has spent the last hundred years taking any job he can to stay alive and support his Amber habit. Supporting the habit became all the more difficult since he'd destroyed the World Tree when he'd killed his progenitor. Some Amber still survived, though. Styx the clone still used the extensive network of criminal contacts the first Styx developed, but had no friends.

Styx was hired to spy on a diplomatic summit in the kingdom of the dark elves.

So, if Gollum read too many noir novels and ended up an assassin it wouldn't be too far off from what Styx is. Styx doesn't really care about anyone but himself and his vials of Amber*. While he loves a challenge, his highest ambition in life is seemingly to get enough money to own a mattress. (He really wants a mattress.) Though he has plenty of business contacts he has no friends. He spends a lot of time simply talking to himself, taking imaginary visitors on tours of his sleeping quarters or making pathetic jokes to himself and then laughing at them.

*The Amber is not as sinister as The One Ring, but as far as being obsessed with it goes it's a pretty good comparison.

Of Orcs and Men, a game that takes place beyond this canonpoint shows that Styx is capable of caring about other people besides himself. Styx will probably always continue to be sort of a callous, selfish prick, but his constant chatter to himself seems to indicate that he needs some kind of company. He could also use some kind of direction in his life. For instance the end of Of Orcs and Men where he devotes himself to helping free the orcs seems a relatively positive way of using his violent and antisocial tendencies.
Next, he should get to see or at least consider the consequences of some of his more selfish decisions. He assassinates someone important for money? He should get to see the war that ensues. Not to mention, he should have to think more about the costs of taking any life.

Finally, he should also be thrown into situations where he has to confront his outrageous identity issues. Maybe some clone support group?

NOTE: How many people Styx actually kills is up to the player. I'm going to say that he had a mid-range death toll, where he wasn't going out of his way to kill anyone or to spare lives. He killed people if he was hired to do it and also if he was significantly in danger or if it would make things more convenient for him.

Acting out? Facing someone who looks like him and claims to be him is Styx's most extreme berserk button. This has even induced murderous panic before.
